How to Search the East Carbon Court Docket
East Carbon runs no separate municipal case-search portal. Utah Courts Xchange is the place to start. It is the statewide public layer for district and justice court records entered in CORIS. Pick Justice Court when you want an East Carbon ticket, infraction, city ordinance matter, class B or C misdemeanor, or small claim. Pick District Court for a felony, class A misdemeanor, divorce, probate, property dispute, or broad civil case. If the level is unclear, search both.
- Choose District Court, Justice Court, or both under Jurisdiction.
- Enter the case number, or use a party name with the first-name wildcard.
- For a ticket, add its citation number and citation location.
- Limit Search Scope to Carbon County or the East Carbon court location.
- Confirm Court Location before opening Case History or Documents.
One caution before you hit Search. A case number is not unique across Utah, and neither is a citation number. The Carbon or East Carbon location does real work here. Treat it as more than a convenience. Xchange also bills each search under the access plan you select. That makes the strongest identifier worth having. Parties to a case can skip the fees entirely. MyCourtCase gives them free access to their own linked case.
East Carbon Venue Needs Verification
Here is where searchers get tripped up. The statewide judicial listing ties Judge Jon Carpenter to East Carbon, yet the county service sentence never names East Carbon outright. The record may land in a justice court, but the citation and the Xchange court location decide the venue. An East Carbon event can produce a Carbon County Justice Court record. No separate East Carbon City court database may exist at all.
That makes the court-location field the decisive one. Do not toss a result on the heading alone. The heading may read Carbon County rather than East Carbon City. Instead, match the party or citation, the case type, the filing date, and the court location. When everything lines up, open the chronological Proceedings section. Still unsure? The justice court clerk, not a city department, is the right office to ask.
The East Carbon Municipal Court
East Carbon's official pages name no independent municipal court. No East Carbon-specific judge, calendar, or docket portal appears either. Confirm the venue for a traffic or ordinance matter from the citation and the Xchange court location. The court sits at 751 E 100 N, Suite 1600, Price, UT 84501. The phone number is 435-636-3289. Judge Jon Carpenter is listed for the justice court.
Its jurisdiction covers class B and C misdemeanors, infractions, traffic violations, county or city ordinance cases, and qualifying small claims. Not every case arising inside East Carbon lands here. Felonies, class A misdemeanors, and general-jurisdiction civil, domestic, probate, and property matters go to the Utah District Court in the Seventh Judicial District. Juvenile cases belong to the Juvenile Court and usually stay out of public Xchange.
East Carbon City Hall Is Separate
East Carbon City Hall sits at 101 W Geneva Dr., yet that building won't get you a state-court docket. City Hall runs municipal government, not case files. The justice court docket for the area lives with the Carbon County Justice Court clerk. District case histories, meanwhile, belong to the Price District Court Clerk. Knowing this split up front saves a wasted trip to the wrong counter.
Use the record's owner. Ask the justice court for an East Carbon ticket or lower-level case file. Ask the district clerk for a felony, class A misdemeanor, divorce, probate, or general civil file. Use City Hall only for municipal administrative records.
One more office gets mixed into the pile. Carbon County's elected Clerk/Auditor is separate from both court clerks. A GRAMA request there can pull county administrative material, but it is not the ordinary route to a state court docket, a judgment, or a certified order.
East Carbon Court Dates and Settings
Start with the newest Proceedings entry in Xchange. Then check it against the Carbon Justice Court calendar instructions. County guidance says hearings may happen in person or by video. A Webex link can appear within 24 hours of the hearing. Participants should join 15 minutes early. Several cases can share one time slot. A wait after you join doesn't mean you missed the setting.
| Date | The docketed day of the East Carbon hearing; check the newest entry for a reset. |
|---|---|
| Time | The listed call time, which other cases may share. |
| Court Location | Carbon Justice Court or Price District Court, as shown in the result. |
| Judge | The assigned judicial officer shown in case information. |
| Setting Type | First appearance, pretrial, trial, review, or another proceeding label. |
Unclear on the Webex link or the hearing place? Call the justice clerk at 435-636-3289. District matters go through the Price District Court at 435-264-4640. A quick verbal confirmation close to the hearing beats trusting an older notice after a continuance.
East Carbon Sunnyside Merger Trail
Chase an East Carbon court docket far enough back. You may run into the name Sunnyside. The two cities merged in 2014, and the old label still lingers. Utah Courts small-claims material lists the Carbon County East Precinct as the filing spot. The name used is Sunnyside. So a modern map and an older court record can point to the same place. They just use different names. The distinction matters more than it sounds. District and juvenile files sit with separate clerks, and each sets its own access rules. The justice court keeps its suite at the county complex. Xchange can search several jurisdictions at once, which helps. Still, check its Court Location and Case Type columns first. Those fields keep the venues straight before you call, pay, or order copies.
East Carbon Traffic Tickets
Start with the citation itself. An East Carbon ticket prints the court name and appearance instructions. Those details decide where to look. In Xchange, select Justice Court. Enter the citation number and citation location. Use a Carbon scope, and consider case type TN for a traffic citation. The result can show the charge, plea, proceedings, hearing, disposition, and accounting. The violation date can differ from the filing date.
Some qualifying Carbon Justice Court tickets may enter Deferred Traffic Prosecution. Others may qualify for traffic Online Dispute Resolution. Utah Courts advises allowing at least five days for a citation to reach the system. Deferred prosecution has a 21-day enrollment deadline. Eligibility must be confirmed in MyCourtCase. For the full county process, see Carbon County traffic court records. Payment does not erase the need to verify whether an appearance remains set.
East Carbon Citation Location Fields
Utah's system labels the East Carbon court docket as Case History. An Extended Case History view also exists. The Proceedings list is the true docket. Filings, hearings, minute entries, dispositions, and other events run in date order. The header shows the court, case number, type, filing date, caption, and assigned judge. Party codes such as PLA and DEF mean plaintiff and defendant.
- TN
- Traffic citation case type.
- SC
- Small-claims case type.
- Proceedings
- The dated sequence of court events and minute entries.
- Disposition
- The recorded result of a charge or case.
Accounting may show fines, fees, sums paid, and any balance due. Not every filing has an image. A public document link means one can be bought for $1. Public case history aids tracking. It is not a certified record.
Where East Carbon Cases End Up
Offense level and case type decide the path. Traffic, infractions, ordinances, lower misdemeanors, and small claims tied to East Carbon need attention to the East Carbon or Sunnyside venue. These may go through Justice Court. Felonies are different. Class A misdemeanors and broad civil, domestic, probate, and property disputes begin in the Seventh District Court. A small-claims trial de novo means a fresh district-court trial after appeal. That creates a district case.
Docket flow: East Carbon city matter › Carbon County Justice Court › Utah District Court (Seventh Judicial District)
Think of this as a map of possible movement. No case is promised to pass through all three points. Many East Carbon justice matters end in Justice Court. Others begin in District Court and never touch a city or justice record. The Carbon County court docket overview explains the county-wide court split in more depth.
East Carbon Population After Merger
The 2020 Census counted 1,556 people in East Carbon. Sunnyside had merged with East Carbon in 2014. It is not a separate incorporated place in that ranking. The older name lives on. A person who remembers Sunnyside may still see it in Utah Courts filing-location material.
The census figure describes the community. It says nothing about East Carbon's traffic or justice docket volume. So search both the current and historic location clues. The Court Location shown in the result tells you which office holds the file.
Public Access to East Carbon Court Records
Court rules classify Utah court records. There is no presumption that every filing is visible. Public East Carbon case information can be searched through Xchange. A courthouse public terminal may offer free Xchange access. The clerk can supply paper or certified copies. When a document is missing online, submit the written Utah Request for a Record to the court that holds the file.
Key rules:
UCJA Rule 4-202.02 classifies court records as public, private, protected, sealed, or another controlled class.
UCJA Rule 4-202.03 defines who may access public and restricted court records.
UCJA Rule 4-202.06 governs responses to court-record requests.
Some records stay hidden. Sealed, expunged, juvenile, and some private domestic material will not appear in an ordinary public search. Older justice data may also be incomplete after conversion. So treat a no-match result as a prompt to check spelling, broaden the jurisdiction search, and follow up with the clerk, not as proof that no case exists.
East Carbon Missing Record Fallback
Xchange serves public case information. A certified copy is different. It is an official court copy bearing the clerk's certification. If an East Carbon filing, order, or judgment must be presented as an official record, find the right court in Xchange and ask that clerk about certification. Downloading a $1 public document image does not make it certified.
The fallback chain is broad. Search Xchange first. Use MyCourtCase when you are a party, inspect at an available courthouse terminal, call or visit the correct clerk, and submit the written record-request form. Utah's official request page says responses usually come within ten business days. Staff time and payment arrangements can affect delivery. Historical material more than 50 years old may instead rest with Utah State Archives.
Nothing marks East Carbon City Hall at 101 W Geneva Drive as a court counter. The statewide judicial listing associates Judge Jon Carpenter with East Carbon. The county service sentence omits the city. Utah Courts also lists Sunnyside with a Carbon County East Precinct small-claims route. These sources support no single automatic venue. So read the citation and search its location. Call the relevant clerk before using a calendar or sending payment.
Treat East Carbon and Sunnyside as search clues. They are not proof of jurisdiction. The Xchange Court Location shown in the result should decide which clerk receives a records request or certified-copy order.
